Exfoliating Tips for Men: The Do's and Don'ts!

We think men can be left out when it comes to exfoliation, so here are a few tips just for men on the do's and don'ts when exfoliating:

  • Use men’s exfoliating products that contain glycolic acid. Glycolic acid helps dissolve bonds between cells, making it easier to buff away dead skin cells and other debris that may have accumulated on your skin. The acid helps encourage new skin cell production, making your skin look younger and healthier.

  • Use men’s exfoliating tools. While your hands can get the job done when it comes to exfoliation, you should use exfoliating tools for better results. The most useful tools are face brush and a pair of body gloves. They’re gentle for sensitive skin, so you don’t have to worry about redness or irritation after use.

  • Use sun protection. Exfoliation can make your skin more sensitive to sun exposure. A SPF 30 sun-block with broad spectrum protection should be enough to keep your skin protected while also helping maintain your skin’s moisture levels. Also, don’t exfoliate immediately before extended sun exposure, as this can lead to redness and irritation.

  • Just exfoliate your face. Dead skin cells can accumulate everywhere. In addition to using a men’s exfoliating product like a face scrub, consider using as body scrub as well. That way, you have more protection against skin issues like acne, ingrown hairs and more.

  • Exfoliate more than 2-3 times a week. Because exfoliation is considered a deep cleaning. Excessive exfoliation can actually make your skin look worse - redness and irritation are common if you exfoliate too much. Don’t make exfoliation a daily part of your skincare routine – less is better.

  • Use too much exfoliating product. Using too much of a face scrub or a body scrub can lead to irritation as well. Always follow the instructions on the exfoliating product’s label and don’t exceed the recommended amount.
